Be cautious. Accept your doubts.
Make excuses.
Let your fear grip you by the throat, paralyze you.
Submit meekly to your fate.
Or embrace your doubts and burn them away.
Accept your fear and conquer it so that it serves you, rather than destroys you.
Grip your fate by the throat, make no excuses, and be a champion.
But don't blame anyone else for this choice. It belongs only to you.

Not for you
I woke up this morning with a song in my head.
It isn't a song I can name, because it hasn't been written. Because I haven't written it.
I didn't have time, before I had to leave today, to sit at my piano and get the basic gist of it down so I could write it later.

Musical Moments #4
This time, I'm going to discuss a couple female-fronted rock bands.
My idea to review EPs is still churning, I just haven't had the time to sit down with a really good one in awhile.
Anyway, I'll start off by saying that I am a complete sucker for a good female singer. I'll ignore a lot of things in favor of that nice voice. That said, I am still a musician. I can only ignore crap music for so long...thus I tend to deliberately seek out good female-fronted groups.
I already reviewed the Hana Pestle EP, but it bears repeating that she has both a great voice and excellent musicality in her songs.
Some of you may have heard of Halestorm. Those of you who have not, go and find them now. The lead singer, Lzzy Hale, is probably my favorite hard rock female singer of the moment, year, and possibly beyond. I've seen them live, and heard her cover the female part of "Broken" by Seether - with Seether...it was excellent.
The band itself is very definitely rock, complete with the power chords and guitar riffs and nice solid grooves that you'd expect from the genre - but they are by no means stale and overdone.
Songs to investigate: Rock Show, Love/Hate Heartbreak, Familiar Taste of Poison, and Innocence.
Next in the line-up (and last for this post) we've got The Pretty Reckless.
I haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live, but I have heard one of their live tracks. I don't generally review live tracks because they will always fail to capture the elements you pick up from being there at a concert...and that never fails to disappoint me. But the live track is of a good quality, and that means they can at least perform as well as they record.
They record rather well. I would call them a bit softer rock than Halestorm, but not by too much. Her voice has a lot of potential, especially if you like that grainy/gritty sort of heaviness in your female singers. I do, as you may have noticed from my crush on Lzzy Hale.
For the band, look for smooth grooves that may remind you of jazz rock, excellent layering, and the occasional surprise of a male singer.
Songs to investigate: Make Me Wanna Die, Just Tonight, Under the Water, Hit Me Like a Man, Cold Blooded
